Evaluation

The evaluation that I am currently making includes four questions which are:
  • In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
  • How effective is your combination with your main product and ancillary texts?
  • What have you learned from your audience feedback?
  • How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

These questions will be answered thoroughly and are prepared and composed on PowerPoint before copying two of the questions, on the combination of my ancillary texts with the main product and what I have learned from my audience feedback on to Prezi which is a form of presentation software that you can access online. Along with the text there will be pictures to help show/explain what I am talking about with the dynamic transitions available on Prezi aiding in this aspect.
The additional two questions on conventions and technology will be recorded and edited on movie editing software before being put on Youtube which will then link back into my Prezi presentation. In addition to the recorded commentary I will include recordings of what I have done on screen such as me using the technology I have mentioned with some additional stills.
All of the questions will therefore be linked into the one Prezi presentation for easy access with the questions being answered in separate delivery formats.

Petrol Advert In Bristol Post

After creating my petrol competition advert I noticed when looking at my local newspaper a very similar advertisement to the one that I created. This was always a possibility as I had noticed beforehand that advertisements for petrol on newspapers were fairly common and the offer must have come up again. I did use the advert in one way however as I used it as inspiration to incorporate the oil spill so that the text is inside of the splurge but all other features such as the pump and the droplets was already planned to advertise the competition in my newspaper. There is also another difference in the advertisements with mine promoting a competition while the one in the Bristol Post being used to advertise an money off offer. This shows that this type of content is quite common which is good as I would have a similar target audience to what this newspaper would be targeting.

Radio Advert Script

Before creating my radio advert I have constructed a script to work from when I conduct my recordings. During the process I have also planned out the situation and what will happen during the radio advert. The scene will be on a breakfast table in which will be a discussion on one of the key stories within the latest issue of the newspaper. When constructing the script for the advert I have purposely tried to create a regional identity within the script. This identity will be of a Somerset origin with the town which the newspaper represents being situated within North Somerset. In addition to the dialogue there will be various sounds related to the morning such as a mug resting on a table as well as the stirring of a drink in conjunction with the sound of the newspapers pages turning to represent the reading of the paper at that moment. Below is the script that I have created for the radio advert:

Script

*Rests coffee/mug on table*

*turns page*

Person 1: Alright my lover?

Person 1: Have you heard what happened yesterday with Garry Thistle’s son from down the road?

Articles

Before inserting my articles into my newspaper on InDesign I made the articles separately in  a word document. Once I finished the articles in the word document I then inserted and formatted the text into columns like it would be in a standard newspaper. One of the features I kept in mind when producing the articles was to try to reduce paragraph sizes to around two sentences a paragraph which is a standard convention for a newspaper to reduce text congestion. Another aspect I tried to apply was to make sure when formatting the articles into columns that any words are split so that it is easier to read that meant no hyphens on the end of a line. The last noticeable feature that I tried to implement on the formatting stage was to include pull quotes on a couple of the articles. I eventually added a pull quote to both the "Children in Fire Scare" article and my article called "Rescue on Felled Victim". The pull quotes I created were formed with enlarged speech marks to represent a quote with the quote in italics with who it is from. The pull quotes are designed to make better use of the space by separating body text to therefore make it easier to read. Below are my formatted articles:
